~The Hazmat Times~

Updated: Aug 28, 2020

Have you ever been drowned in your own sweat for hours and hours, that the only thing in your mind is to run out and take a shower. The fact that you are trapped in a plastic bag filled with your own sweat for 6 to 12 hours or more might sound intimidating but all this doesn't stop us from giving in that extra joule of energy for a "CODE BLUE" on the floor. Yes, we exist a part of the bigger clan who have left behind their families, their priorities and have made the welfare of their patients their prime priority. More than ever ,now is the time we need your support to fight this "Pandemic".At first "Covid -19 or Corona virus was just a news headline and before we knew it was a reality. Nobody was ever prepared for such a turn of events but as they say, evolution is something which cannot be contained." My Daughter does not recognize me and my wife anymore over the video calls, She thinks that we are some random aunty and uncle "This is what one of my On floor Doctors said during a short break in one of the Covid ICUs. It's not easy to get up every day morning , or evening (when you have night shifts👀) thinking whether that sick patient is still there in that bed or someone has replaced him or will someone among us be the next .It's not easy to convey the prognosis to the patient's relatives who are miles away or in nearby vicinity but are denied to be with their loved ones through this phase where they fight for every breath.Have you ever had to turn your head away to hide your tears?? That clutch of your hand and that helpless look in the eye pleading to you to make them better. Little do they know we are not Superheroes, but mere tools of the Great Artisan from above.Every time I see my patients, I tell myself what if they were your Grandfather, Uncle, Mom or Dad ?? What makes it even more hard is the feeling of being away from your loved ones (especially the ones who moved out of state, country), and it's even more harder for the ones staying with their family, Shooing away your own 3 year old from coming near you for fear of transmitting infection. We are craving for that warmth of a hug from our loved, for a peck on cheek by our toddler, to snuggle in bed as a family during cosy winter nights but we are giving it up all just for you, Just so that you and others from the society can have that warmth . So is it a Big favour to ask?,For you to Stay home and not come out unnecessary, To practice Social distancing, To wear a mask and follow hand hygiene !!! If we can do so for you, it would mean the world to us if you guys could do the above for us. If not for us, atleast for you because we don't want to see a single person more suffering not only physically but from mental exhaustion of not being able to be with your loved ones. Amidst all this we find a ray of hope when we can wean a patient from the ventilator and send him to the ward and from their back home. We make our heart lights with the simple things in life , every day is a lesson, A Lesson to make tomorrow a better today.

Yours Truly

Miss Alex
